Invincible season 2 part 2 debuted on Prime Video on March 14. Amazon confirmed a March release date for the return of its adult animated superhero show in late January, revealing it was moving from its original Friday episodic launch day slot in the process.

Previously, co-showrunner Simon Racioppa told TechRadar that it "wasn't the original plan" to split the season in two, but the decision was made due to production issues, which were likely caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are other actors who could voice characters in season 2 volume 2. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the latest Walking Dead actor to reportedly join Invincible's ranks, was believed to have been cast in an undisclosed role. However, Kirkman played down those suggestions, exclusively telling TechRadar he's "going to disappoint many people" by saying that's (potentially) not the case.

If he’s going to survive Part 2, he really will need to be… pic.twitter.com/UqDjeyCZ7PFebruary 15, 2024

Some previously announced actors – see the list below – didn't feature in part 1, so expect their characters (whoever they're voicing) to show up in part 2.

  • Micah Aliling
  • Eric Bauza
  • Chloe Bennet
  • Lincoln Bodin
  • Camden Coley
  • Cliff Curtis
  • Calista Flockhart
  • Josh Keaton
  • Luke MacFarlane
  • Ella Purnell
  • Tim Robinson
  • Paul F Tompkins
  • Lea Thompson
  • Kari Wahlgren
  • Shantel Vansanten

Of that contingent, Josh Keaton's voice role has sparked the biggest interest. He voiced Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series in the late 2000s – and now, for some reason, some fans have put two and two together, got five, and claim Spider-Man will make an unexpected but crowd-pleasing cameo in Invincible season 2 part 2.

For what it's worth, Kirkman told IGN that fans shouldn't expect to see the webslinger in the show. We won't be commenting on or spoiling whether he does or doesn't, either, so you'll just have to sit tight and see what's what when part 2 arrives.

Invincible season 2 part 2 story speculation

Invincible season 2 part 2: release date, trailer, cast, plot rumors, and more (3)

Full spoilers follow for Invincible seasons 1 and 2, as well as the graphic novels.

Amazon hasn't released a story synopsis for Invincible season 2 part 2. However, we've got a solid idea of how the rest of this installment will play out, based on what happened during the mid-season finale and the comics that it's inspired by.

You can read about what's been teased by its creators in our ending explainer article in our introduction. Below, we'll elaborate on Racioppa and Kirkman's comments, so this is your final spoiler warning. Turn back now if you're not caught up or don't want to know what will happen.

Invincible season 2 part 2: release date, trailer, cast, plot rumors, and more (4)

Firstly, Mark – with new stepbrother Oliver in tow – must find a way back to Earth. In the mid-season finale, he was abandoned (not to mention severely injured) on Thraxa after Mark and Nolan were beaten by some of Viltrum's best warriors. That came after Nolan's return and reunion with Mark in episode 3 – a shock character reveal that was almost held until episode 4, Racioppa exclusively told us.

As Nolan told Mark in episode 4's opening sequence, Earth is millions of miles away from Thraxa and he doesn't know the way back home. So, unless the Coalition of Planets come to Mark's aid in episode 5, he's going to have a hard time getting back there. Well, as the trailer shows, once he's helped the Thraxans rebuild – not to mention recover from his own wounds – after the Viltrum Empire's devastating attack.

He'll need to head home quickly, though. General Kregg, the leader of Viltrum's armed forces, warned Mark that they'll invade the planet – killing countless people in the process – if he doesn't continue his father's work and convince Earth's population to surrender to them. Mark isn't going to do that but, unless he finds a way to get home, Earth will be powerless to stop the Viltrum Empire conquering the third rock from the Sun.

The amount of times we had to pause and scream watching this trailer… pic.twitter.com/ayzZaJdK3MFebruary 15, 2024

Meanwhile, things don't look good for Nolan. Not only was his back broken by Lucan in season 2 episode 4, he was also imprisoned by Viltrum for betraying his race. After all, he abandoned his posting on Earth, fathered an "impure" (their words, not ours) child with a Thraxan, and attacked (and seemingly killed) his own kind in episode 4. In short: Viltrum plans to execute him for his crimes. Between you and us, though, we think Nolan will escape and, if they'll have him, join the Coalition of Planets' fight against his dictatorial race.

It'll be interesting to see what Nolan meant when he told Mark to "read my books", too. We caught a glimpse of those novels when Debbie (Nolan's wife and Mark's mother) left them in a box on the roadside outside the Grayson family home. What will Mark learn when – not if – he reads them? Information on Viltrum's warriors, most likely – and, more importantly, how to defeat them. If Mark can put Nolan's secrets into practice, he may be able to stave off Viltrum's invasion, either permanently or until reinforcements arrive in the form of the Coalition of Planets.

But Mark's got even more to worry about than the Viltrumites. Angstrom Levy, one of his biggest arch-nemeses, is biding his time to get revenge on Mark. Levy was conspicuous by his absence in season 2's last two episodes – indeed, apart from appearances in Invincible season 2 episode 1 post-credits scene and episode 2's mid-credits stinger, he was nowhere to be seen. We know he'll return before season 2 ends, though, with the trailer confirming he'll put his nefarious plan into practice. Fans of the graphic novels know when he'll return and how important he is to Invincible's overall plot. All we'll say is expect some hugely shocking moments to play out very soon.

Audiences are also desperate to learn what becomes of Allen the Alien. In episode 3, Allen was mutilated by the Viltrum scouting party that attacked Mark and Nolan in episode 4. Left for dead, he was placed in a medically induced coma by the Coalition of Planets, only for its seemingly benevolent leader Thaedus – the only other Viltrumite to apparently betray his people – to turn off Allen's life support.

Does this mean Allen is dead? As Racioppa told TechRadar, Invincible's creative team "isn't done with him yet" – and, again, long time fans of the graphic novels will know what happens to Allen moving forward. Season 2 part 2's teaser already confirmed he'll be back, but how and when he does... well, you'll have to wait and see.

pic.twitter.com/dVj5hIhaziFebruary 15, 2024

There are many more subplots that need some form of resolution in Invincible season 2 part 2 as well.

For one, fans want to know what's next for Debbie after she starting to make peace with her grief over Nolan's betrayal. The last we saw of her, she told Global Defence Agency (GDA) chief Cecil Stedman that she no longer wanted his monetary handouts – a big step as she looks to break free of Nolan and the GDA's stranglehold. Well, until Mark potentially shows up with Nolan's illegitimate child in the form of Oliver...

Then there's Atom Eve and her struggles with her spur-of-the-moment superhero efforts, which keep putting people in harm's way. With Mark off-world, she has no-one to confide in, so she's reluctantly headed home to seemingly patch things up with her adoptive parents and seemingly rein in her heroic endeavors. However, Invincible season 2 part 2's trailer shows she'll soon be fighting alongside Mark and the Guardians of the Globe, so she'll only be on a temporary hiatus from saving the world.

That's only scratching the surface of what's to come as well. There's more to learn about Donald's apparent resurrection. We know Mark, Atom-Eve, and the Guardians will head into space to tackle the potentially catastrophic Sequids invasion – remember them from season 1? – too. There'll be more monsters to fight, the Lizard League to contend with again, the arrival of a new Viltrum warrior who's charged with making sure Mark is carrying out his duties (is it the hugely important Anissa? Quite possibly), and – hang on, another Mark Grayson with a cape!? Oh, dear reader, are you for a treat. But hey, we won't spoil anything else from the graphic novels here. All we'll say is just be sure to tune into Invincible season 2 part 2.

How many seasons of Invincible will we get?

Invincible season 2 part 2: release date, trailer, cast, plot rumors, and more (6)

At least one more. A third installment was greenlit alongside Invincible season 2 and, according to the official Invincible X account, voice work has been completed on it.

Speaking to IGN, Kirkman also revealed Invincible season 3 is "very far along" and that "this [the period between seasons 1 and 2] is the longest gap anyone will ever have to wait between seasons". However, when asked by Collider when season 3 will be with us, Kirkman also said "I can't say", so we might have another wait on our hands once Invincible season 2 part 2 is fully released.

As for what'll happen after season 3: there are 144 Invincible comic issues, spanning 20 years of Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s careers. The TV adaptation altered the order of certain plot points in its first season, but only covered the first 23 issues. If a similar trajectory is maintained for future seasons, Invincible could end around the season 7 or 8 mark. Kirkman has said there could be more or less than that, telling ScreenRant there's a "rough roadmap for where things from the comics will fall".

pic.twitter.com/uhUifymOgEFebruary 15, 2024

Future seasons depend on whether Invincible continues to draw in audiences in its next two seasons, too – or will it? Speaking to Collider, voice actor Seth Rogen seemed to suggest it'll continue after season 3 regardless. However, Amazon exclusively told TechRadar that "nothing official has been announced".

In the incredibly unlikely event that Invincible ends after three seasons, there's plenty more to be excited about from a franchise standpoint.

A live-action film, which is still being worked on despite languishing in development hell for years, is still on the way. And, with Invincible expanding out into the video game sector in recent months, we can expect to see the comic series become a multimedia powerhouse in the years to come.
